When it comes to social media, especially Instagram, body image, self-confidence and mental health play big parts in the industry. The Instagram world has now become ‘Hollywood’ for online. People don’t feel confident enough to post photos that aren’t in social media terms ‘insta worthy’ or ‘have a certain look’. People all over the world love Instagram including myself but it can take very negative tolls on individuals. Instagram has become a place where you are ranked and put into a category of social status and therefore people with little number of followers don’t feel good enough compared to people with millions and so on.

I am going to help guide you through the Instagram social media world and help demonstration that you can feel your best on Instagram and create amazing content if you follow simple steps.

Ann Smarty’s article about ‘developing hardcore social media content’ discusses that the first big step when posting content and gaining an audience is to “establish your audience”. By this she goes into discussing that “how can you create good social media content if you don’t know your audience”. For example, commonly people aim their posts at people the same age as themselves, a 19-year-old wouldn’t post content to attract 50-year old’s unless they specifically wanted to. By targeting a certain audience, you will have more of a positive reaction to your posts as people will have an interest in what you post and possibly look up to you.

When posting content on Instagram, yes you want it to look good and feel good about it. To do this is very simple. People admire things they love so post what you like, and you will feel good about yourself. People try and compete with others by copying posts because they feel it’s what people want to see. Collecting inspiration from other people’s Instagram is a perfect way to gain an idea of what aesthetic and feel of content you want to post. If its genuinely what you like, and you create content in your own way then this is not copying but just having a similar interest to others on social media which is very common. Do some research about how to aesthetically set up your Instagram feed and you will be a pro in no time.

Posting photos of yourself can be a very scary idea for many people. Again, only post photos of yourself that you like and feel good about, don’t think you have to just post photos of yourself to be loved on Instagram. For some people posting photos of themselves is very comfortable and makes them feel good about themselves. Getting a positive reaction from friends and users is always a good feeling so see what works and doesn’t by looking at analytics on your Instagram page. This can help you identify what people like and are interested in, and therefore help you grow your following. Instagram is not all about how many followers you have so don’t be disappointed if things aren’t how you expect and at the end of the day it’s about your feelings not others. Always make sure you feel confident and happy with your content and it will lead you the right way.
