Create a whole new wardrobe from clothes you already own!

There are always many new fashion trends coming in and out and it’s easy to get caught up in the hype. Like myself I love to keep up with what’s new and always look different and unique with what I wear. I’m all about standing out by looking unique and getting comments such as “wow where does she get her clothes from”. By unique I don’t mean dressing absolutely crazy to gain attention but wearing items that people don’t usually see and not blending in with the crowd.
People incorporate many vintage and retro trends from previous era’s into their fashion today. You see many new trends frequently which is a take on a previous trend from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and so on. Old trends can become new trends and you can create your own as long as you have the right idea.
Kia Goosby’s article ’16 fashion trends that will get you all the compliments in 2020’ discuses and displays trends that are very popular right now in the fashion world. She displays trends such as trench coats, puffy sleeves, utility jumpsuits, buttercup yellow, leather and many more that are all takes of previous trends. As these trends are making a comeback they are designed in a modern way and therefore making it a new trend. Kia Goosby goes into detail on how to wear the trends with a good example of her talking about leather. Leather is a trend that has been around for many years and is always changing depending on the season/year. She states that “Who said leather was just for colder temps? Instead of putting your leather away for half the year, labels like Prada, Givenchy… want us to wear year-round and in all the colors, not just black”.
Young people like myself are most likely unaware that these new trends are from previous era’s if it wasn’t for research and knowledge in the fashion world. It is very easy to develop your own way of wearing an old trend just by doing some simple research and instead of sourcing old clothing, finding similar replicas.
Wearing retro fashion doesn’t mean you need to look old too, you see many celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner strutting the streets of New York and LA wearing retro fashion especially the good old 90’s look. The pull off these looks just by pairing certain pieces together to create the look and feel.
Wearing retro fashion can be finding something in your parents’ wardrobe, to finding a cheap top from Kmart and cutting it. It doesn’t all have to be about wearing designer clothes to create the perfect look but pairing the right items together. I love to pair something simple with a statement good quality piece which can be any take on the type of retro I’m going for. My favourite would usually have to be 90’s fashion but I also love to spice up my style by wearing other retro trends now and then.
It’s all about sourcing and creating pieces that have that certain retro look and this is all you need to do to pull off retro.
